Irmgard's ceramic works are made of a porcelain clay body that is fired in an electric kiln.
She takes inspiration from her roots in Germany, recalling poetic images from her memories of home...fields, forests, meadows, castles & fairytales. She says of her work:

"I love to develop and experiment with glazes, giving special care to how they feel.
I enjoy carving & altering my pieces, in addition to playing with sculptural elements."

After ending her teaching career in 1989, Irmgard decided to "live her passion" by working in clay. She took classes at the Craft Alliance, RIT, NYSC & SIUE to develop her skills in throwing, hand-building, sculpture & glaze technique. In 1993 & 1995 Irmgard attended Alfred University in New York and developed a unique approach to working with clays and glazes.
