An MacBryde Pastels have been used by artists since the sixteenth century. They are pure pigment with some binder and are the most permanent of all media if handled properly. Pastels which hang in museums throughout the world were a medium often used by Degas, Cassati, Manet, Renoir and Toulouse. I use them for their brilliance of color and for their immediacy which allows me to pick up a stick, as inspiration hits, and try to bring the subject to life. The medium is full of possibilities. As a portrait artist who also paints landscapes - or a landscape artist who also paints portraits, depending on what day it is - pastels allow me to express a full range of ideas.
